The Baxter Hall, originally known as the Workmen’s Hall, was opened in 1867 by Robert Baxter, a successful lawyer who was born in Stoke Golding. The original Deed of Trust stated that part of the building was to be used as a school, part as a house for the school caretaker and part as a reading room for working men. In more recent years the school moved out of the building, the School House within the Baxter Hall was privately rented, the Community Hall continued to be used for social activities and the Lower Hall housed the playgroup. 

In February 2020 the Leicester Diocesan Board of Education (LDBE) decided the Baxter Hall no longer met their core objectives and they put it up for sale. A group of villagers objected to the loss of this valuable community facility and, in order to save it, formed The Baxter Hall Charity (No:1193753). LDBE has now agreed to lease the Baxter Hall to the charity for 25 years and, during that time, has also agreed to negotiate the full transfer of the building to The Baxter Hall Charity.
